Children's Karate Classes
Confidence. Focus. Fitness. Discipline.
Every parent wants their child to grow up feeling confident, capable and able to deal with life's challenges.
Karate can help them develop those qualities while learning a traditional martial art, getting active and — importantly — having fun.
At IMA Karate, we teach children from 4 years old, with classes designed specifically to help younger students learn, progress and enjoy their training.
Let Your Child Try Karate FREE
The easiest way to discover whether your child will enjoy karate is to let them experience it.
Their first session is completely FREE and gives them the opportunity to join a real class, meet our instructors and start learning karate.
There's no obligation to join afterwards.
More Than Learning to Punch and Kick
Karate is a martial art, but what children learn goes much further than physical techniques.
Through regular training, we encourage children to develop confidence, concentration, discipline, respect and perseverance.
They learn to listen to instructions, practise skills, overcome challenges and experience the satisfaction that comes from gradually becoming better at something.
These are skills that can benefit them inside and outside the dojo.
Building Strong, Confident Children
Children develop at different rates, so we don't expect every student to learn in exactly the same way or at exactly the same speed.
Our instructors create a supportive environment where children can progress while still being challenged.
As their karate improves, children often become noticeably more confident in their own abilities.
A technique they couldn't perform becomes something they can do.
Then comes another.
And another.
Over time, those small achievements can build genuine self-confidence and self-belief.
Keeping Children Active
Karate gives children a great way to exercise without exercise feeling like a chore.
Training can help develop fitness, flexibility, balance, coordination, motor skills and spatial awareness while introducing children to movements and skills they can continue developing for many years.
Instead of simply burning energy, they're learning something at the same time.
Confidence Without Aggression
We teach children that learning martial arts comes with responsibility.
Karate isn't about encouraging children to fight.
Students learn self-control, respect for others and when it is appropriate — and inappropriate — to use the techniques they learn.
We also help children develop the confidence and awareness to deal with difficult situations, including bullying.
The aim is always to avoid confrontation wherever possible, while giving children the confidence and skills to protect themselves if they genuinely need to.
Something to Work Towards
Children love recognising their progress.
That's why our students have a clear pathway through the traditional Shotokan Karate grading system.
Gradings are normally held every three months, giving students the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned and progress towards their next grade.
Along the way, children can earn coloured belts and badges of merit recognising their development and achievements.
Ultimately, those small steps can lead all the way to something that once seemed impossible:
A Black Belt.
Could Karate Be Right for Your Child?
You don't need to decide today.
Let them try it.
